The videos began as an experience focusing mainly on users’ images. Over time the dynamic content became conceptually more entwined with story which continually presented unique challenges to an already complicated workflow.
Chapeau bridged the creative and technical with FB engineers to develop a high end composite process that renders quickly. Less layers means smaller files and faster turnaround to more individual users.
The exploration started with Look Now, an ambitious concept including as many as 40 dynamic images in a given shot. Before the shoot, Chapeau worked with a live action director and FB to create a previs that helped production as well as engineers understand how to troubleshoot the challenges ahead. Previsualizing the entire video helped FB refine how to better interpret user data. These proactive steps laid the digital foundation for the videos that followed.
